Aspirin

AspirinAspirin is also known as acetylsalicylic acid and is a common drug used for a number of purposes.

It is used as an analgesic to relief aches and pains; it is used as an antipyretic to lower fever and as an anti-inflammatory medication in anti-inflammatory diseases.

It is also used as a blood thinner and is used in low doses on a long term basis to prevent heart attacks and blood clot formation in people at higher than average risk of developing blood clots.

In addition, high doses of aspirin can be given to a patient who has just had an acute heart attack to limit the size of the infarct.
